Dr. Kate Iverson and Jeanette Vega are having problems after Jeanette completes an investigational cancer treatment. Jeanette’s having personality changes and Kate gets referred to Repairman Jack.

Meanwhile, Jack is having problems of his own after a tabloid reporter sees him at work. This causes Jack to go back to Abe and Parabellum for a new pistol.

Kate and Jack turn out to be long-lost siblings (which I found a little unbelievable) and Kate is the primary source of the medical knowledge used in the book. Naturally, Kate and Jack uncover a deeper, libertarian plot than the plot at the beginning.

A new virus induces a hive-mind state in those it infects. While Jack is under its influence, he has visions of a Russian woman with large, dark eyes accompanied by a large white dog. The Russian woman helps Jack out of danger. As she leaves she hints at a higher destiny, something that will be interesting to watch evolve. The entire plot resolves in a series of explosions but Jack survives.

These Repairman Jack novels are like candy: hard to get enough of and hard to stop eating. I’m looking forward to the next volume in the series The Haunted Air.
