Year-end Charitable Donations: A Reminder

With the holiday season and the end of the year approaching, now is a good time to say "Happy Holidays"—and remind LFS members that you may make annual tax deductible donations to the Libertarian Futurist Saciety. Since November, 2001, the LFS has been a nonprofit, tax exempt organization under Section 5รป1(c)3 of the lRS code.

The LFS definitely benefits from your extra support. Tax deductible donations allow us to expand several worthy projects, such as our outreach activities and display advertisements, as well as bolster our stockpile of gold coins for future Prometheus Awards.

Mail checks, made out to the Libertarian Futurist Satiety, to Director Victoria Varga. 89 Gebhardt Rd., Penfield, NY 14526. Or for convenience, you may visit our website www.lfs.org—to make tax-deductible donations via PayPal. LFS Webmaster Tod Casasent has set up separate PayPal buttons specifically for your tax-deductible donations, which can be made in any combination of amounts ($30, $60, $120, $240, $500, and $l000). The deadline to postmark letters (or make a donation via PayPal) to be eligible for tax-deduction on your 2002 tax statements is December 31, 2002.

As required under the IRS code, Director Victoria Vega will mail an official LFS letter confirming receipt of all donations of $250 or more. If your donation is less than $250, such confirming letters are not required, and it is the responsibility of each donor to maintain accurate records of annual donations.

In addition, a portion of your annual membership dues is also tax-deductible. Simply subtract the tangible cost of your subscription to Prometheus ($20/year), which is included in all LFS memberships. The balance is deductible: $180 of your Benefactor membership ($200/year), $80 of your Sponsor membership ($100/year). $30 of your Full membership ($50/year), or $5 of your Basic membrship ($25/year). For new Life (Sponsor-benefit-level) memberships, we estimate that $800 of the $1000 membership will be tax-deductible.
