Finalists for the 1988 Prometheus and Hall of Fame awards have been chosen by the
members of the Libertarian Futurist Society. Prometheus Award finalists are:
Circuit Breaker by Melinda Snodgrass, the second of her
fine lawyers-in-space trilogy; First Citizen by Thomas T.
Thomas, a cautionary tale of power's corruption; Victor Koman's The
Jehovah Contract, a delightful allegory which insists that even if God did exist, he would
not deserve worship; The Uplift War, by David Brin,
which is much more than a manifesto from the chimpanzee liberation front; and Gordon
Dickson's compelling Way of the Pilgrim
Hall of Fame finalists are Alongside Night, L. Neil Schulman’s first novel;
Alfred Bester’s explosive story of a man transformed, The
Stars My Destination; the ever-controversial The Dispossessed
by Ursula K. Le Guin; and two classic revolt- against-totalitarianism
novels, This Perfect Day by Ira Levin and Yevgeny
Zamyatin’s We.
The five finalists for the Prometheus Award were chosen from a field of ten nominated novels, and
the Hall of Fame finalists were chosen from eleven nominations. All LFS members are eligible to vote
for the Hall of Fame award, but only Advisory members may vote for the Prometheus Award. Reviews of
all of the finalists can be found in this issue. Awards ballots should be marked as indicated in the instructions, mailed to 89 Garnhardt Road,
Penfield, NY 14526, and must be postmarked no later than August 5th. The Prometheus awards will be presented this year in New Orleans at the World Science Fiction
