Ted Turner's Book Award

By Bill Ritch

Since I am from Atlanta, I always feel that I must deal with the existence of Ted Turner, media mogul. On the one hand he is a Vandal who colourises innocent B&W films. On the other, his organisation has reclaimed complete versions of many movie masterpieces. I just recently saw restored versions of the 1932 Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde and the 1926 Ben Hur.

Politically he is neither right-wing, left-wing, nor middle of the bird. He is just a fool. Who else could justify the oppression and slaughter of the Chinese people by their government and then, as balance, commission and broadcast a movie, Secret Weapon, which exposes the Israeli atomic bomb works and reveals Mossad as the Nazis they are?

One of his good ideas is an award for a positive novel of the future. He has set up a prize of $50,000 and Ray Bradbury is one of the judges. Don’t worry: Turner will intervene and will probably choose a statist book as the winner.
